The Spine was the band's first full-length adult-oriented album after their foray into children's music. It was produced by longtime TMBG producer Pat Dillett. In an unprecedented move for the band, they released The Spine simultaneously alongside a separately-sold EP entitled The Spine Surfs Alone.
