Taken from a series of live improvisations recorded on two ancient mono reel to reel tape recorders in the Red Spider Retreat in Whitstable in 1985. This was 10 years after Spider and a friend, Ralph , had seen the two tape recorder set-up used by Fripp and Eno at their London Palladium concert in June 1975. The recordings were restored and revitalised by BG at the Pod in December 2007 and January 2008. Of the original recordings, it is alleged that BE said "If I had only known, I would have been a locksmith", and RF "And I a watchmaker". The 1985 cassette covers were adorned with what was described by Jeff and Bobby (of Fragmentary Clues fame) as 'Spider's Mystical Signs', which included 'the Morford cross' and 'the Grosvenor variant'. It has since been suggested that this may be a reference to two locations in Bath, a city in which Spider had lived for a couple of years in the early 1980's. However, many years later it was observed that they had more than a passing similarily to the Sectrix of Maclaurin . Of course, such speculations do not really have any impact on the music, which many have considered rather a shame as it is the signs that have generated the most interest. Spider never returned to this method of performing and recording music, and it was not until 2007 that the recordings re-emerged from the cavernous vaults of the Spider Chamber.
