They may take their name from the biblical command for illumination, but Toronto drone-gaze duo Let There Be Light prefer to lurk in the shadows, cocooned in their hermetically sealed sound world. Their debut five-song EP, The Setting Sun, thoroughly mines a tradition of ambient indie-rock that extends from the early-'80s 4AD through to the late-'90s Kranky catalogues, where vaporous vocals, rippling guitar textures, washed-out synths and strange soundbite samples all blur into a cloud of narcotic noise. So in that sense, the band's godly moniker is wholly justified β The Setting Sun is a slow-dissolve snapshot of a storm in heaven.
