Working together since the late β80s, and recording as Cassius since the mid-β90s, French duo Boom Bass and Philipe Zudar are known around the world for cranking out bizarrely funky electronic offerings, creating a sort of futuristic freak-out music that somehow brings together house, hip-hop, minimalism, retro electro-pop, and digital cut-and-paste. With The Rawkers, they are all over the map as usual, concocting bugged-out mixes that are either right up your alley, totally confusing, or both. Though only six tracks deep, this EP has a little bit of everything; "I <3 U So" rocks some old school sped-up soul samples and melodramatic pianos paired with Simply Saucer-esque sound effects, "Brotherhood" and "Les Enfants" are more in the straight-up synth-pop vein, while "Shark Simple" lives up to its title with imposing keyboard blasts set to very basic beats. Cassius may be a little too weird for mainstream superstardom (at least in the States), but they're still making unique, impossible-to-pigeonhole music on their own terms User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
