This is Vol 1 of Black Ether’s 4th release, The Obsidian March, a two volume set that has not yet been released commercially, but is streaming on various places on the net. The Obsidian March marks an evolved Black Ether from its “enigmatic” roots into a full fledged progressive act while maintaining the signature sound that is distinctive to Black Ether. Edgier and rawer, with tunnage like Silver, The Return of the Jester King, Wonderlust and This Sacred Place, The Obsidian March displays a more sophisticated grasp of song as art and story. The album also marks the evolution of BE from a strictly instrumental outfit to one that is more lyrical in nature, with songs like Its Me I Know and So It Would Seem getting full vocal treatments and may other tracks featuring vocals. And old time BE fans will enjoy the fact that the BE classic Waltz of the Ether Black has finally found a home on one of BE’s commercial releases, providing the closing track for The Obsidian March.
