Album
The Homesick is the self-titled third full-length studio album by Dutch band The Homesick, released on September 8, 2023. The album brings a new, electronic sound with it, in comparison to their previous, rock-oriented, albums: Youth Hunt (Subroutine Records, 2017) and The Big Exercise (Sub Pop Records, 2020). After being dropped from the famous indie label Sub Pop for unknown reasons, the band had to self-release this album, which they've been working on since early 2021, after taking a brief hiatus due to the global pandemic. When they begun to perform live again, band members Jaap van der Velde and Elias Elgersma had already let go of their guitars, and replaced them with electronic synthesizers and samplers (including the Roland SP404), while drummer Erik Woudwijk kept playing his real drum kit. Their sound shifted even more towards the neo-psychedelia from the likes of Animal Collective, which The Homesick already got compared to by the press, as well as their fans, when they released The Big Exercise. While touring in anticipation to the recording and release of this album, The Homesick developed fourteen songs on stage. Early on, these songs didn't contain any concrete lyrics yet, they just sang some improvised words, along with gibberish ad-libs. They put working titles on their setlists. The songs they played during this tour are (in order of the album's tracklist + outtakes): • Silhouettes (working title: Silhouette) • Soola (working title: Sula) • Millimetric (w
