By now everybody should know that there’s no quintet like The Five Corners Quintet. Teppo Mäkynen, Timo Lassy, Jukka Eskola, Mikael Jakobsson and Antti Lötjönen have truly upped the ante for a contemporary acoustic jazz band, and thank heavens we finally have them on tape live. "The Helsinki Sessions" documents a live recording done at Helsinki's Kapsäkki venue and it's safe to say it shows the Quintet in top form. Oldies but goodies like "Trading Eights" and "Unsquare Bossa" sit comfortably next to "Hot Corner" tracks such as "Skinny Dipping" and "Hot Rod". It was minus way-too-many degrees outside as this was recorded, but as you all can hear now, inside the venue it was more like a sauna heating up. Sweet! Vinyl version coming later on as well.
