Cordae’s third studio album, The Crossroads, sequels his 2022 LP, From a Bird’s Eye View. When asked why he used The Crossroads‘ title, Cordae responded saying: "I felt like I was at a crossroads in my life, and just so many avenues at the time. I felt like it was like life or death. Felt like, literally, my next decision. I’ve kinda realized that one decision doesn’t hold that much weight. It’s a culmination of decisions." Before any confirmation of the title, it was teased throughout From a Bird’s Eye View, notably with the crossroads cover of “The Parables” and the chorus of “Chronicles,” which explicitly mentions traveling around crossroads. Cordae formally announced the album’s existence in a January 2022 interview with Apple Music, where he noted already being deep into the recording process.
