These tracks date from the early Spring of 2003 through late June. The Magic Squares' music was deeply affected by the buildup to war and the invasion of Iraq ("Fragmentary Background" is constructed of BBC radio broadcasts during the opening days of the war). The music ranges from genteel psychedelic folk-rock to experimental tracks and includes covers of two Kinks songs and one Short '66 tune. The Magic Squares are usually identifiable by the wah-organ that shows up in a lot of these recordings.
