Album
The Accelerators describe their music as "skunkabilly", a fusion that draws from ska, punk and rockabilly but it's the ska influence that really stands out here, with boppy rhythms that would sound right at home on a circa '79 2-tone Records release. Across the brisk 7 tracks on their debut EP, they bring a robust melody driven sound with catchy hooks that linger in the mind for days after listening. When they do depart from their ska roots they stray into territory that's more Aussie pub rock than anything else, as evidenced by notable tunes 'The Cops Are On Their Way' and 'The Culprit'. You'd think there wouldn't be a lot of cross pollination between the the styles but in practice it's a good fit for the larrikin spirit that infuses their lyrics. This is a piece of stripped down, good time rock. Travis Johnson - Xpress Magazine User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
