“That Was Then” as a snapshot of his experiences during the COVID‑19 lockdown—a collection of songs born from emotional highs and lows during quarantine. According to him, the EP is intentionally “random” and “chaotic” in tone, reflecting the unpredictable mental and emotional states he moved through in 2020. The title itself is a reflection of moving past that period: “That was then”, meaning it’s behind him and marks a phase he has grown beyond. Daniel has spoken about wanting to shift toward more POV-driven storytelling and include a sense of resolution and positivity moving forward—something less present in the darker, breakup-focused tone of his earlier work. He sees That Was Then as both a reflection of his pandemic mindset and a threshold to new creative growth.
