Thamesbeat was the name given at the time to the particular style of music that The Pleasers were producing. The name stuck after a radio interview with Richard Skinner on BBC Radio 1 in the late 70's who suggested to The Pleasers that their sound was very similar to The Beatles Merseybeat sound of the 60's. After which a member of the band said as a joke "No how can it be, we're all from London so its not Merseybeat, its Thamesbeat", and from then on it stuck! The Pleasers were also credited by music journalists in the late 70's for introducing Powerpop to the World. Anyway whatever you like to call it, their original style of music is honest and of now and will one day soon have its day again, as seems to be the case of late. Since, the massive Chinese company Tencent has acquired the rights of The Pleasers song 'Troublemaker' to advertise (both online and TV) their new social media mobile App WeChat. Could another hit be on its way after all these years! Lets hope so... User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
