"Tha Carter" is a 2004 rap album by American rapper Lil Wayne. The bulk of the album was produced by Cash Money Records's former in-house producer, Mannie Fresh. "Tha Carter" preceded Lil Wayne's work in "Tha Drought" mixtape and Tha Prefix mixtape, where he freestyled over "The Black Album". "Tha Carter" peaked at number five on the 2004 Billboard 200, and at number two on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. A chopped and screwed version of the album was produced by Michael 5000 Watts. The album is loosely based around the mansion owned by Lil Wayne; "Walk In", "Inside" and "Walk Out" all feature Wayne describing his lavish home. "Tha Carter" is generally considered Lil Wayne's "break out" album, due to the obvious maturity in both his subject matter and delivery compared to his first three albums. "Tha Carter" is the start off to a highly successful album saga. The album spanned four sequels, "Tha Carter II" which was released in 2005, "Tha Carter III" which was released in 2008, Tha Carter IV which was released in 2011, and "Tha Carter V" which was released in 2018.
