Sunset Before Dawn is an ambient EP by Brighton-based composer Winter Silhouette, released in June 2025 on Canadian label Signal Alchemy. Rooted in the genre of organic ambient, the EP blends soft synth textures with nature field recordings to evoke a sense of stillness and introspection. The release features a series of slowly unfolding compositions, each marked by minimal harmonic movement and a restrained, meditative pace. The EP was inspired by early mornings and sunsets experienced during a holiday in Spain, moments the artist describes as “quiet, with sounds of nature uninterrupted by the busy day.” These impressions are reflected in the sonic palette—gentle synthesiser pads, subtly evolving textures, and ambient field recordings combine to create an immersive, nature-infused soundscape. All tracks were composed and produced by Winter Silhouette, the recording alias of Lewis Broad-Ashman. Known for his atmospheric and nature-inspired compositions, Broad-Ashman draws influence from artists such as Global Communication, Biosphere, and Stars of the Lid. His music is characterised by four-bar chord progressions, reverb-drenched melodic fragments, and carefully selected audio samples shaped through digital manipulation.
