Known for catchy choruses that you can’t get out of your head, independent artist Shawn Mathews continues to prove that he just can’t miss with his new captivating single, “Stone Cold Killer” based on Scott Pilgrim's anime. The track starts off with Mathews’ recognizable charm, in tandem with a newfound grittiness. In his past releases, Mathews has prioritized his own experiences when it came to songwriting, but is now experimenting with fiction as he writes about being lured by an assassin-like lover. Consciously knowing that he shouldn’t entertain her fallacies, this flame betrays him and he inevitably takes the fall at the hands of his lover. Featuring lively guitars, punchy, driving percussion, and high-energy vocal delivery, Mathews fuses the catchy, easy listening of pop music, with the edge of alternative-esque grit, similar to that of Dominic Fike or Deb Never, and delivers one of the most electric tracks of the year already.
