Album
Released on June 24th, 1989, Start Today is the debut studio album by straight edge, new york hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits. Released under the indie label Revelation Records, it's one of their biggest-selling records ever, with over 100,000 units sold. Straight edge began to root outside of its D.C. origins; its influence entered into the New York hardcore scene. Between the mid-80s, a new movement rose within the New York hardcore scene called youth crew, a movement described as having incorporated straight edge themes as well as having a positive lyricism and messaging like communal unity, everyday struggles of the working class, and anti-racist rhetoric. Youth crew can often have a melodic hardcore sound while and/or having thrash metal undertones, and breakdowns. The release of Start Today postdates the release of their 7-inch self-title EP, Gorilla Biscuits, released on July 14th, 1988, also under Revelation Records. Start Today remains as Gorilla Biscuit's only released album. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
