After reuniting with Soundgarden in 2010, their successful tour led to a studio collaboration which produced King Animal. During it's production, Cornell launched an acoustic tour revisiting his entire catalog. 'Songbook' is the live album culled from that tour, sampling all phases of his career - with Soundgarden, Audioslave and his solo recordings. Allmusic finds it a strong album, with Cornell "engaged, looking outward to the audience, giving subtly forceful performances that often rescue overlooked tunes ... at peace with his past and comfortable with his present" and praising a "casual assurance makes 'Songbook' his best solo offering to date."
