Cat#: ALLEY027 Release date: 17 January 2012 Genre: progressive house, tech house The already lengthy list of progressive and tech house talents who have debuted with Mango Alley - a list that includes Shingo Nakamura, Stimpack, and Orion & J.Shore - just got longer with the arrival of promising newcomer Meeke. The title cut of the young American talent's debut EP is called "Something Else", a track that begins with just a weighty kick, snare, and light hat rhythm, but crescendoes its way into a hypnotic tech stormer. After a small teaser break in the early going, a gentle atmosphere sits behind an ominously-growing, repeating lead motif. Light arps begin to dance around it, adding to the lead's hypnotic intensity. In the main break, all of the build elements drop out, and we are left with a haunting new lead motif. The impact of the drop to follow is tremendous. The second composition in the EP is "Transfixed", that is an equally "hallucinogenic" tech anthem. The tune centers on a repeating, reversed pad effect. As the track roars toward the main break, this main motif becomes more layered and resonant, and a few other synth effects are added. In the main break, the main theme is "deconstructed" and pulled back, as to add greater dancefloor impact to the massive drop.
