Beset by problems, Soldier on the Wall was the last studio album by Alex Harvey. It was released in 1982, a full year after his death. Many critics say it has an unfinished sound, many of the tracks even lacking lead guitar or properly recorded vocals. The album itself was only available for a very short time as Powerstation, the record label which released it, collapsed shortly afterwards. When preparing for a CD release of the album in 2003, it was discovered that only the master tapes for side 1 of the album were still in existence. In fact, only the first four tracks were remastered from those original tapes. An appeal was launched for mint copies of the original vinyl release and it was from these that the remaining tracks were digitally remastered.
