STS / SHOOTING THE SUN is a solo project from William Rehn and a host of others. The initial session for this record was in a small (basement) home studio in Silver Lake California on Friday March 11, 1995. Rehn (rain) is joined on this record by Goldo (drms/gtr/keys), Daniel Shulman (bass), Ziv Fisher (drms), Josh Segal (violin), Craig Cole (sax), Emmellda Beech (bk voc), Tony Ruiz (bass), Olivia S. Beale (bk voc), Michael Mackey (gtr), Tim Gregory (bass), Glen Wood (trumpet), Eric Garcia (bass), Abby Travis (bass), Walt Thompson (keys), Victor Balogh (gtr/keys). The record was recorded using 5 different studios and several sessions spanning 1995-2002. The record was released on cd in March of 2003. The offices of Herb Alpert were contacted to solicit help on trumpet for track 9 "Robin Hood Affair" but he was unavailable. Glen Wood stepped in to provide the solo. SHOOTING THE SUN was mixed and mastered by Alan Hirano of Samurai Homeboy fame. The title SHOOTING THE SUN comes from a nautical term for using a sextant on the ocean to determine ones latitude. Sextants are also used on spacecraft for shooting stars to determine position. There are two or three other entities recording as STS.
