Sargasm is an eclectic collection of interesting genres and colorful musical textures, almost the antithesis of the "theme album". The Migration is an epic instrumental with hypnotic melodic threads in a new age rock frame. On the other extreme, Line Between is an electric guitar driven powerhouse with lyrics to match. The album does have some Latin and Blues colors that reappear in several songs, with Afterglo's acoustic and the electric guitar solos sounding much like something that Carlos Santana might have played. Blue Rain stands alone, much like the rest of the album, in a genre of its own. The song moves through a progressive jazzy motif interrupted every few measures by an instrumental outburst. Then the song takes an unexpected turn into a more classic blues/jazz. There is a crude under-engineered aspect to the songs that may be appealing to many listeners in Sargasm, which seems to present Sizemore as an artist who is either seeking a style, or who refuses to conform to a single style for the sake of commercial viability. The hidden gem is the lyrical message, which may be the only real common thread in this debut album.
