The new album from Randauman, Riding 2009, features new songs recorded under significantly better circumstances, both studio-wise and life-wise. The music on this album takes a step closer to more well-planned recordings, better lyrics and more varied instruments. There are real drums here, accordions, flutes and many different guitars. At the same time, songs such as What's a life without pain? and You made wine (a different version that the original one on Greatest Hits Vol. 2) are completely bare and recorded with a fairly simple tape-recorder. They stand in stark contrast to for example Riding On The Ocean! which features tons of effects. All instruments are played by Randauman, often with the guitar recorded first and then moving over to the drums and playing to the recorded guitar. Then bass is added and finally the vocals and perhaps an effect or two or more instruments. It's all done in the living room!
