Renegade is HammerFall's third album, the first with drummer Anders Johansson. It was released on October 9, 2000 on the label Nuclear Blast Records. As shown in the tracklist, the current guitarist of In Flames and former founding member of Hammerfall, Jesper Strömblad, was co-writer of several of the songs featured in the album. The album was a stylistical turning point for HammerFall. This is where the band gradually started moving away from pure, fast-paced, high-pitched power metal towards slower, mid-tempo, "epic" heavy metal with galluping riffs.
