Album
Reek of Putrefaction is the debut album by British extreme metal band Carcass. It was released by Earache Records in July 1988. It is regarded as the very first goregrind album, a musical genre with lyrical focus on grotesque medical and pathological images as opposed to the political themes found in most grindcore bands. It is most notorious for its low production quality, which is poor enough as to distort the guitars and bass to the point of often being indistinguishable. This production choice is largely considered accidental, with the band stating they were "anything but happy" with the final sound of the record upon release. It has nevertheless remained a cult classic with a strong influence in modern grindcore - Its tracks have been covered by many grindcore bands such as Pig Destroyer and Jig-Ai, and is regularly lauded as a landmark album in the history of grindcore.
