Album
This is Amon Duul's debut recording. It is more of a "happening" than an album of songs. It sounds a lot as if it were made by having somebody randomly switching on and off a tape recorder, whilst a bunch of serious anti-nazi, anarchist hippies went mad on acid and beat the hell out of drums, wardrobes, trash cans, biscuit tins, violins, cutlery and guitars, whilst giving vent to their spleen in a series of chants and animalistic howls. In Munich. "Phallus Dei", a pseudonymous contributor to Julian Cope's Head Heritage describes it as the sound of your soul being purified by fire". It was released in 1969. Amon Duul were an anti-nazi anarchist commune, based in Munich. They were reputed to have enjoyed the occasional acid party and owned a tape recorder. They later formed the band Amon Duul II, who were less tribal than this. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
