Washington, DC-based singer/songwriter Verlette Simon released her sophomore CD on her own Twisted Folk Music label in 2007 entitled Proof of Life. Here she continues to expand on her folk roots with a jazzy, gospel-tinged spin on bouncy pop conventions and introspective melancholy. A soulful, intelligent songwriter, she cites her major influences as The Indigo Girls, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Armatrading, Toshi Reagon, and a host of other soul singers and songwriters that she grew up listening to.
