Nu is a collection of mostly instrumentals from 2006 and 2007 - This album features some guest artist as well. The album is called Nu as this was a new departure for Paul to work as a solo artist. Paul's first band was Belfast's Detonators who were one of the early punk bands playing around the North Belfast area during some of the worst years of the 'troubles'. Paul 'Groover' Mcilwaine would be best know as the guitarist from the Tearjerkers a power pop group from Northern Ireland who toured with bands such as Thin Lizzy, Doll By Doll, Rachael Sweet and Dexy's Midnight Runners. U2 once played support as well. Paul also played with Belfast art rockers Etc Etc and after a few years started playing jazz with Blue Rhythm a band that also featured Alan Shield on Bass and the late Dermot Harland on saxophone. Later in the 1980's Paul joined the Bob Dawson Big Band a band that later brought the world the Jive Bunny records. During the ninties Paul played mostly gospel music in a variety of church settings. The Detonators reformed in 2002 for a few recording sessions and since that time Paul has continued to write record and perform mostly blues inspired music. He is a regular at the www.soundclick.com/paulmcilwaine website and has collaborated in songwriting projects with artists from America, Canada, UK and Ireland.
