“No Strings” is the third and final studio album by Ace. Released on Anchor records, the band had relocated to the United States. Where they would have Jon Woodhead join the group to replace the now departed Phill Harris in June 1976. Shortly thereafter, they recorded and released the album in the same year. The main difference from other Ace albums is Paul Carrack’s vocals being more prominent than previous Ace albums. However, even with his vocals on two singles released off the album, they failed to chart. Leaving Ace to disband in July of 1977. The sound of the album contrasts a large amount with their previous album, “Time For Another”. With “Time For Another”, the band featured a much more laid back and mellow sound. While “No Strings” has a large splash of production, more in line with their biggest hit “How Long”. With large swaths of backing vocals, as well as catchy hooks that create a body rocking groove, it definitely harkens back to the sound they had on their first record, “Five-A-Side”. However, it could be deemed as “too little too late”. With the growth of the punk movement, as well as a general shift in music as a whole. However, it still goes to show how well the band was able to lock into one another, and play off each other in such a well mannered demeanor.
