Born on 17 February 1942 in Gevelsberg (Germany), Klaus Weiss was in the late 50s and 60s, one of the few experienced jazz drummers who were taken and accepted seriously by the American colleagues and role models. Like his long-time companion Sepp Werkmeister remembers today, Klaus Weiss was the only European drummer with American feeling and therefore not only among American colleagues sought after and popular. His experienced, competent and inimitable play led not only to the fact that he managed numerous big band projects, but also with the likes of Cecil Bridgewater, Johny Griffin and Herbie Mann on stage. Already in the 60s played white with the German jazz saxophonist Klaus Doldinger in the quintet and with Doldinger also played years later, a then relatively unknown drummer Klaus Weiss with his project Niagara was concerned at first Udo Lindenberg. The first Niagara album simply titled Niagara and due to the sweat, wetted breasts also those in mind who have not heard this music - appeared in 1971. The album was unusual not only because of its cover: It was a purely percussive album on which the numerous high-profile drummers from around the world gave themselves a get-together: The Americans Cotch Blackmon, George Green, the Englishman Keith Forsey, Juan Romero from Venezuela and the German musician Udo Lindenberg, Daniel Fichelscher (who also starred in Gila, Amon Düül II and Popol Vuh).
