Album
Model Citizens was a short-lived New York post-punk band formed in 1978. They were: Steven Alexander (guitar, voc), Eugenie Diserio (organ, voc), Tomek Lamprecht (guitar, vocal), Gloria Richards (marimba, voc), along with Billy Robertson (bass) and Robert Medici (drums). Their eponymous 4-song ep was produced by John Cale, and released in 1979 on Cale's Spy Records. Model Citizens specialized in high-speed dissonant polyrhythmic grooves with ironic lyrics. Their stage presence, dressed like bankers and fashionistas, was a witty contrast to their aggressively experimental music, and a comment on the prevailing punk aesthetic. In addition to their frequent performances at CBGB, Max's Kansas City and Hurrah, headlining or sharing bills with such bands as Contortions and Suicide, they also presented an "Evening with Model Citizens" at the Cotton Club in Harlem, and performed in "The First Concert of the 80s" at Carnegie Hall. After Model Citizens, Steven Alexander and Eugenie Diserio went on to form The Dance, and Billy Robertson formed Polyrock.
