Album
Mirror Starts Moving Without Me is the somophore album by American singer-songwriter, Mía Berrin, or better known as the indie garage-rock band Pom Pom Squad, released on October 25, 2024, through City Slang Records. On her second album, Mia Berrin continues to write sugary anthems detailing early adulthood’s growing pains, but this time she trades punk for punchy, sharp-edged pop, through ballads full of nostalgia and confusion to cathartic guitars full of confidence and doubts. In this project, the band's vocalist, Mia Berrin, takes a deep look at her own reflection, the reflection that she as Pom Pom Squad shows to the world. “Receiving attention, negative or positive, left me feeling very fragmented, constantly thinking about other people’s perceptions,” Berrin says. “At a certain point I felt like I couldn’t even control my own reflection. All these different versions of me were swimming around in people’s heads and on the internet, eclipsing the real me.” The album received generally positive reviews from the media, especially from sites such as Pitchfork, Rolling Stones, Paste or Metacritic, which highlighted the great evolution that this album presents compared to its predecessor ‘Death of a Cheerleader’ in 2021. Likewise, the album was considered by Rolling Stones magazine as the 100th Best Album of 2024. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
