Tenor sax/clarinet player Mike Curtis has played on other artists' recordings, as well as serving as the leader of his own group, the Mike Curtis Klezmer Quartet (comprised of Curtis, drummer Dave Storrs, bassist Daniel Scollard, and accordion/keyboard player Dave Leslie). All four of its members have played in a variety of northwest jazz bands over the years, including such obscure outfits as Hester Street Klezmer Band, Second Avenue West, and Oomph Intercontinental Klezmer. The Quartet issued its debut recording in 2000 on Storrs' record label, Louie Records, titled Street Song, while its members continued to play with others. Some of these related outfits include the jazz groups Tone Sharks, Path, and the Famous Daves, such free music units as Zygoat and Guss, plus the classical oufits Oboe Madness, and the Eugene Symphony. In addition to his Mike Curtis Klezmer Quartet duties, Curtis has issued a 1998 collaboration with pianist Dave Leslie, Path, plus guesting on albums by such other artists as Dave Storrs & the Tone Sharks' Report from a Log (1998) and Gary Michael Tipton's Tales of Majesty (2000). Curtis currently teaches music at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and has also played bassoon in several different symphony orchestras over the years.
