Mesmer Theatre is The Arcana's third studio album. Although different in sound and concept to their first two albums ( Tomorrow Is Yesterday and Lemon Freddy Phantom Of The Sky) it retains the vibrant distinctive sound of The Arcana that permeates those first two albums. The album was made over two years and many new and cutting edge techniques were used to create a musical landscape, which transports the listener to a higher plane. The band keeps the audience guessing right up to the end of each song, music and lyrics delivering a new message to the listener each time. They were joined by other talented musicians for the recording of the album and over fifty different instruments were used to help to create the album's unique musical character! Mesmer Theatre begins with the pulsating drums of Sweet Deity before roaring into classic Arcana guitar riffs. Sunshine Brightly is a beautiful uplifting ballad. Wishes Last Forever unleashes the first of a number of potent orchestral accompaniments that gives the first indication of a thematic film influence. Hotel Reveal embraces the flavour of the 3:4 time signature reminiscent of the folk ballad style. Time Is On The River is a tornado into oblivion with its raging bass and guitars and heavy but intricate drumming. Showgirls is a compelling theatre influenced ballad, ending with one of the most unusual instruments on the album.
