Martin Hayes' eponymous first CD was released on Green Linnet Records in 1992, and was the recording that launched Hayes' astoundingly successful career as an international touring performer and recording artist. His bare bones approach, simplifying and drawing out the lonesome sounds of his native East Co. Clare fiddle style, opened the door to a new understanding of Irish traditional music. Hayes' fiddling was perfectly accompanied by another brilliant musician, Randal Bays. Widely hailed as a great fiddler in his own right, Bays' deep understanding of the implicit harmonies behind the Clare fiddle tunes and his spare approach to guitar accompaniment helped make "Martin Hayes" a classic recording of Irish traditional music.
