The Minas Gerais band Lupe de Lupe launches their new concept album, which happens to be called "Lula". Previously called "Trator", the group decided to go back and put the initial working name of the disc. "Lula" comes with 16 songs that are among the most palatable of the entire career of the band. The disc has an obvious concept and another not so obvious. All the songs are named after cities in the country and go through numerous national rhythms, in addition to sabotaging some international rhythms as well. At first glance, it is similar to the study by the band leader and record producer Vitor Brauer in his "História do Brasil", release of 62 national covers songs (which also has a sample by ex-president Lula in its last song): a study on what is Brazil, this amalgamation of influences and rhythms, pains and loves, passions and regrets. However, with a deeper observation, it is clear that the album is not so much a study of what Brazil is, or an explanation of its cities, but rather about what we, the Brazilians, are. The metonymy is pleasant and the album is similar to another work by Vitor Brauer, a more recent one from his extensive catalog, "BR Garage", which in itself is an attempt to understand himself as Brazilian and alsomaking electronic music in fact Brazilian, something almost unprecedented today in the country (the funk carioca itself uses foreign rhythms in its foundation).
