A strong, well-rounded debut effort that paints a perfect picture of new acoustic singer-songwriter, Scott Lloyd. The five track EP bursts into action with the opening track, 'Streets Are The Colours', which tells a story of self-belonging in new surroundings and a sense of searching for something new. With just an acoustic guitar and vocals, the flowing melody and driving rhythms are a reflection of Lloyd's strong influences from American musicians such as Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. This track has been described as having a 'fiery mystique and unadulterated beauty in the melody, lyrics and a voice that sounds like summer.' (RockNRollInMySoulBlog, 2013) After the burning passion from the opening track comes 'Times Like These'. A catchy, folky number which 'gives a nod' to 'Dylan'. It reinforces Lloyd's ability to paint a picture with his lyrics as he sings about a moment of loss and the strength needed to pick yourself up. The darker tones of his lyrics are juxtaposed against the up-beat, feel good rhythms and melody in his music and paints an interesting picture of what is to come. What does come next is the title track, 'Long Live You'. This is perhaps Lloyd's strongest effort, with just a guitar and vocals he sings about his home country and a sense of pride that is slowly slipping away.
