Irres Rind is a musical collective from Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany, formed in September 2012. With a rotating lineup of five to nine members, the group focuses on setting older poems to new musical arrangements that range from heavier textures to pieces with an almost classical feel. The name comes from a line in Annette von Droste-Hülshoff’s poem Der Knabe im Moor (“…es bricht wie ein irres Rind!”). The musicians first came together to provide live music for a fashion show and, following that performance, recorded the material that became their self-released CD living verses. The release also includes an original homage to their hometown, with lyrics by a local student. Early recordings were distributed directly by the band, and listening samples were shared on YouTube.
