Lightning Demo, the debut release from Ghost Ghost, was recorded live in a small rehearsal room in the Lower East Side. It was released on May 1, 2008, just three months after the band formed in a dark basement below a health food shop on Ludlow street. Energetic and uncompromising with haunting lyrics penned by bass player Kevin Peckham, both songs Forest Fires and Old Leaves tell the story of a deeply disturbed and fractured mind struggling to make sense of an increasingly disordered world. Old Leaves is littered with allusions to Wallace Stevens and Gerard Manley Hopkins. Forest Fires is a loose web of scenes told in a spinning 'Prufrock-like narrative sequence. Guitarist Karl Ward, lays down hauntingly rich and disonnant vocal harmonies to counterpoint his equally diverse and complex guitar riffs.
