Album
This three-song "album" was released as a free download in 2008. The Polar Bears Last Picnic is original, and "All the Sleeping Heroes", added in December, 2009 is focused on the Copenhagen Climate Summit, but two other songs are public domain songs that aren't directly green or political. The point of the Polar Bear song is that the human race has to lower the CO2 content of the atmosphere if amazing creatures like this are to remain our companions on this planet. The song is accompanied by calabash and conga. In "All the Sleeping Heroes", Giddings plays the zanzithophone and b-flat pennywhistle. The other two songs are unaccompanied. Giddings finds that "Pull for the Shore" is intensely political, even though it was written as a hymn at the turn of the 19-20 th century. The stranded wreck is the economy and the whole way of thinking about the relationship between human life and nature that we need to leave right now! "Old Memories" is a little-known Stephen Foster song that Giddings thinks needs to be heard more. He urges you to sing along with these songs, learn them by heart and pass them on.
