Knives was recorded at The Winter Palace, a studio nook in an unfinished house in northern Minnesota, where recording conditions could dip to near the freezing point and in fact the cat's water dish would routinely freeze solid. Plum recorded 2 CDs worth of instrumental tracks in 2007. Knives collects the most extreme while the Dream Lake CD is home to the more sedate tracks.
