The score to Peter Jackson's King Kong was composed in just five weeks. Despite this short time, James Newton Howard mentioned in an interview that he doesn't feel he could have done better because of the lack of time - just there wasn't much sleep. James Newton Howard's score was a replacement to what was going to be Howard Shore's credit. Peter Jackson had creative differences and so James Newton Howard was brought on the task of composing for the motion picture. The soundtrack contains nearly 75 minutes of score, although a lot more was used in Jackson's 187 minute feature (201 minute expanded).
