Joe Rolfes put together Yusef and the Yurtmakers in order to produce songs he has been performing acoustically in bars throughout China. He has traveled through several provinces and has worked in four of them over the past four years. The songs reflect his experiences while living there. Some of the lyrics are politically charged and others, while more personal, still inflect the sense of contempt that one may have with current world power. Freedom is the one element that transcends all the tracks. Real freedom. Influenced by Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Radiohead among others...it is evident in his songwriting.
