‘Journeys’ is the third album composition from DJ THEORY that deals with an exploration sounds and vibes from the cultures of the world. The album is actually an audio odyssey, a quest for textures, sounds, and rhythmic idiosyncrasies within each culture of our planet. ‘Journeys’, as a result, is a statement of unity and harmony of all of the people of the world. Each of the track is a wandering quest throughout the accompanying region, reflecting themes and sounds that are associated with that regions, as a result, creating a character identity for that region or country. ‘Journeys’ begins in the west, in North America, keying heavily stated influences of blues, rock, and jazz within ‘Free’, ‘Knowledge (New Birth)’, and ‘Daybreak’. Then the odyssey moves into Latin America, with ‘Tequila Sunrise’ and ‘Vespa Ride’. After jumping across the ocean in ‘Helmsmen’, an ode to the New-World explorers, the soundtrack lands into the European regions of England, Wales, and Scotland. Shortly after, the odyssey moves into Africa, then the land of India, where the listener is invited in on a covert spy mission into the city of Calcutta. The album branches out into a more mechanical sound as it ascends into the statement of unity in ‘Borealis’, when the album makes the statement of unification under one dance rhythm.
