PICKING UP where bands like Echo & The Bunnymen and Joy Division left off, Roadside Memorial's debut release, "IX" offers new dark romance to be enjoyed on the dancefloor. Combining many of the best elements of both British Invasions and injecting both with new life, this record's sound seamlessly stitches together the psychedelic, surf-garage rock of the Sixties and the keyboard-driven, sixteenth-note-beat post-punk of the early Eighties. The resulting soundscape is a wintery one, speaking to loss and the dark side of love in plaintive reverb and infinite sustain β as if The Doors crashed into the Psychedelic Furs and together opened a fresh Tarot deck.
