Born and raised in Stockholm, Beldina Nelly Radoudi Nyadwe has family roots in Kenya - hence her artist name, Malaika (“angel” in Swahili), chosen in honor of her late grandmother. She’s been running her movement - If I Were A Bell - on her own since 2010, getting love on MTV and around the blogosphere along the way. In March 2014 she put out the ‘Opening Act’ mixtape hosted by DjBooth, now followed by her debut EP ‘Intermission’. Beldina’s own words on the EP: “Usually, an intermission is a recess between parts of a performance, but in Beldinas case the ‘Intermission' EP is a break into my next chapter. When you're at a play or a concert intermission causes the audience to return to reality. You might have missed a few missed calls, still pissed cause you got into a fight with your lover before going out and basically real issues catches up on you as soon as the lights come on. But there are also the ones, so inspired by what they just witnessed during the Opening Act that they just can't wait for more. That is how I feel about my EP, it's reminds you about life love, being alone and that it hurts sometimes. A bittersweet melody. Lyrically, I always draw true stories from my life and moving from Stockholm to Los Angeles inspired me to paint a bigger picture musically so you can get to know me, Beldina.
