The Shipwrecks are an American band formed in 2000 in Brooklyn, NY. The band started as a vehicle for the poetry of Frank Morris. The project initially began with Chris Smith and Martin Small (both of Smit Haus) on guitar. Jeff Buda was brought in to play drums. Hex Lubinger sat in on a practice session in place of Martin Small and the project clicked. Eventually, Ryan Sackrider replaced Buda on drums and Smith took up the bass, thus setting up the classic lineup of the band. The band played many New York City area clubs (CBGB OMFUG, The Continental, Acme Underground ) building a loyal following. After building a studio in their Downtown Brooklyn loft, the group started to record demos (many of which have found their way onto the 2008 release 'Inchcape Rock'). Favorites included 'I Want to Join The Irish Mob' and 'Civil War Lover.' Their loud and raucous shows got them banned from such clubs as The Charleston and The Orange Bear. The sound of the band is found to be a hybrid amongst 70's Punk acts such as The Sex Pistols, Richard Hell and The Ramones mixed with more straight forward rock acts such as The Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Motörhead. Hex Lubinger once described the bands sound as 'something that knocks you over and then starts kicking you in the ribs.' In 2001, the band decided to take a break.
