During the early to mid 1960's there arose a plethora of bands known as The Mustangs, especially in the garage and soul music domains so a little confusion seems inevitable., The Mustangs that recorded IN AMSTERDAM were German in origin and practically unknown in the US although very popular in Europe and Japan..They adopted their moniker in part because they played Fender Mustangs, but also because ( as did many other bands) the name sounded sleek and sexy. The Mustangs initially played surf-rock instrumentals during the surf-crock craze of 1962-64, but adapted somewhat to changes in pop music taste heralded by the advent of British beat music; they even went so far as to incorporate vocal pop/rock songs into their live and recorded repertoire. As would-be Merseybeat popsters The Mustangs left a lot to be desired. However, as instrumentalists their musicianship ranked among the best in the world. These timeless surf-rock recordings are as crisp and enjoyable today as way back then. If you enjoy Dick Dale, the Ventures, the Atlantics, the Challengers, the Trashmen et al of yore and the more contemporary Aqua Velvets, Meltones, Los Straitjackets and Mermen, then I encourage you to add the Mustangs to your playlist. You won't be disappointed. IN AMSTERDAM includes 24 tracks, mostly studio recordings, but a few live cuts as well. Highly recommended, especially to surf-rock afficienados and budding guitarists. Other album titles include BEAT IN GERMANY, A BOLT FROM THE B
