I Wear the Face is the debut studio album by the American pop rock band Mr. Mister, released on March 27, 1984, by RCA Records. The album marked the official genesis of the group, formed by vocalist Richard Page and keyboardist Steve George following the dissolution of their previous band, Pages. Seeking a harder-edged, more radio-friendly sound compared to the jazz-fusion style of their earlier projects, they recruited guitarist Steve Farris and drummer Pat Mastelotto to complete the lineup. Produced by Peter McIan, the record showcases the band's early transition into the AOR and melodic rock arena. While it did not achieve the blockbuster sales of their subsequent work, it provided the group with their first taste of chart success. The lead single, "Hunters of the Night," received significant airplay and reached number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100, establishing the band's presence on American radio. Other tracks, such as "Talk the Talk" and "I'll Let You Drive," further defined the polished, synth-driven rock sound that would become their signature. Historically, I Wear the Face is often viewed as the stepping stone that prepared the band for global superstardom. It laid the necessary groundwork for their massive breakthrough success that would arrive just one year later with their sophomore release, Welcome to the Real World.
