The second studio album from Jucifer, 'I Name You Destroyer' was recorded during several short sessions in late 1998 and early 1999. The band signed to Capricorn Records in summer '99 as this album was being mixed. Because Capricorn wanted to immediately release a re-issue of Jucifer's earlier album 'Calling All Cars On The Vegas Strip' release of 'I Name You Destroyer' did not take place until 2002, following their EP 'Lambs' and three years after this album was completed. 'I Name You Destroyer' is similar in theme to 'Calling All Cars...' as its characters wrestle with drug addiction, depression, and apathy. Unlike 'Cars', 'I Name You Destroyer' was set in a then-present time frame, the 1990's. As with 'Calling All Cars...' Valentine and Livengood constructed the album as a soundtrack to accompany a series of imagined vignettes about a dysfunctional female protagonist. The use of sterile electronic sounds such as keyboards, e-bow, and vocoder, along with Valentine's unusually detached vocal takes, contribute to a sense of modernist malaise. 'I Name You Destroyer' features richly layered production. Jucifer, who produce their own music and play all instruments, included in its liner notes that the album was created without "Pro Tools, big shots, or lackeys". Standout tracks include 'Amplifier', a glossy but menacing pop indictment of rock-n-roll excess, and 'Queen B', a thrashy metal tune which gives a more accurate glimpse of the band's core sound.
