Sandman Records announces the release of Lanny Sherwin's "I Like Being Me!" — a fun-filled addition to its award-winning series of children’s CDs and a funky musical adventure for children ages 4-9. The CD has won 9 awards - probably because of Sherwin's motto: "Don't Drive Parents Crazy!" "I Like Being Me!" features 11 original songs by singer-songwriter Sherwin (www.SandmanRecords.com). It's an eclectic musical bag, including 60s rock, Do-Wop, Country Rock, Reggae, & New Orleans swing. The CD is full of Sherwin’s unique take on the everyday experiences in a child’s life. These include making mistakes, valuing a friend, counting the days until the weekend, expressing feelings, even having stinky feet (“When it comes to stink – you know I got it/You may think there’s a skunk in my pocket”). "I Like Being Me!" is the fourth children’s CD release from Sandman Records and Lanny Sherwin. The first two CDs, Dream With Me Tonight - Lullabies For All Ages and Dream With Me Tonight, Volume 2 - A Father’s Lullabies, were written for ages newborn to 5. They have been an instant success with families nationwide winning 30 prestigious music awards including “Best Toddler CD.” Both sets of lullabies were composed by Lanny Sherwin as an expression of his love for his son, Alec, and as an alternative to traditional music and lullabies. Sherwin’s 3rd CD, Turn Up the Music!, was released in 2006 for the 4-9 age group and has earned 8 music awards including Parent’s Choice, Teacher’s C
# Why This Album Merits Attention This collection stands out for its genuine musical intelligence applied to children's material. Rather than talking *down* to young listeners, Sherwin crafts genuinely funky arrangements—drawing from 60s rock, doo-wop, reggae, and New Orleans swing—that respect children's musical sophistication. The songs emerge from actual childhood experiences rather than abstract lessons, creating an authenticity often missing from the genre. What's particularly noteworthy is the restraint: the album's philosophy explicitly resists the sensory overload that characterizes much contemporary children's media. This combination of stylistic variety, narrative honesty, and compositional care suggests an artist treating the form
